Ada Minnie Stevens and her mother Maria Mynie Stevens both died in a Wellington scarlet fever epidemic three months after the family moved to the new capital. The move was for her father Francis' (Frank's) promotion as a civil servant in the Lands & Survey Department - which he eventually headed as Commissioner of Crown Lands. Ada was nearly two years old when she died, which was two weeks after her mother's death. Ada's sister, three month old Clara, was the only child to survive in the household. Ada's dates: Born 10 June 1863, Auckland Died 27 Mar, 1865, Wellington |
