Daisy Jean
Born on June 1906, the only girl, with three brothers. Records show that she attended Waiuku Primary School, leaving to help at home until her mother died in Tuakau in 1926. After her mother's death she had employment in Waiuku, before moving to the South Island assisting in a Presbyterian Orphanage, known as the Glendenning Home in Dunedin, where Jean stayed some years. In February 1947 she was appointed as assistant Matron to the Presbyterian, Te Whaiti Nui-A-Toi Farm and Training School for Maori Boys until the end of 1961 when Jean retired to Taupo.
The following is recorded in the book on 'The Story of Maori Missions' on Jean "Has continued her quiet faithfully service as assistant matron of the Te Whaiti Farm School. The life at Te Whaiti is very much that of a large family, and Miss Mellsop has made a long and worthy contribution not only to the work of the family but also to its spirit and atmosphere".
Jean was on holiday in the South Island, when she passed away at Te Anau in May 1975.
